Welcome, fellow yogis!
This week, you get to examine a popular standing pose called Trikonasana, or, as it’s known in English, the Triangle Pose.
Utthita Trikonasana (oo-TEE-tah trik-cone-AHS-ah-nah)
utthita = extended
trikona = three angle or triangle
Standing Poses
This standing yoga pose isn’t just about creating a beautiful shape with your body ( even though you will;-)); it’s an effective way to enhance physical and mental stamina and help you feel grounded and stable. Because of its effects, you will cultivate self-generated confidence.
It works! You may have already experienced this on your own.

Utthita Trikonasana
In our upcoming video, you will explore Utthita Trikonasana = Extended Triangle Pose. This variation specifically targets the inner hamstrings and adductors, especially the gracilis muscle, which crosses the knee joint (unlike the other adductors). The triangle pose requires both legs to be straight as you bend over your front leg, and this action all five adductors.
Hyperextension of the Knee Treatment
With over 20 years of experience teaching yoga, I’ve noticed a common stumbling block, particularly for my flexible students with hypermobile joints: hyperextension in the knee of the front leg.
But fear not! In this 25-minute class, you will learn the key actions to preventing this misalignment in Trikonasana.
How? By properly engaging the hamstrings, calves, and quads. By toning these muscles in the correct order, you will learn the difference between a stable straight knee and a hyperextended knee.
This isn’t just any yoga sequence; it’s a progressive sequence leading up to Trikonasana. It’s designed to help you to EMBODY the proper muscular actions that lead to optimal alignment for your legs.
Cultivating Awareness of Your Whole Being
Throughout the practice, you’ll focus on cultivating awareness, syncing breath with movement, and employing the right amount of muscular action to align all systems of your body/mind. Because yoga goes beyond just stretching and strengthening the body, right?
The aim is to enjoy the beauty of this pose and reap its full benefits for your WHOLE BEING. I mean, you are the WHOLE BEING 😉
Get ready to feel grounded, strong, and deeply connected with your body and mind. Let’s dive in! 🧘♂️🧘♀️
